Portfolio Construction

, Online

The INREV Portfolio Construction course is the opportunity to from leading experts on how investors decide their allocations to real estate and build optimal portfolios by size, location and available products in today’s market.

The online course, which consists of a series of four sessions across two weeks, addresses the fundamentals of portfolio construction theory and its possible applications as well as the limitations of real estate portfolios.

It looks at real estate investment strategies with the backdrop of the macroeconomy and property market cycles, and how to take a multi-asset approach using real-life examples. The course also addresses the role of debt in a real estate portfolio and considers important strategic issues such as developments, fees, risk strategies and manager selection, and is an opportunity to examine this topic with senior industry leaders.

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Theory and practice of portfolio construction;
  • Investor approaches to portfolio construction;
  • How to build the optimal target portfolio taking into account market activity and other limitations;
  • Fund manager selection;
  • The impact of leverage and fees.

The course is aimed at those who want to learn how to apply general allocation techniques when constructing non-listed real estate portfolios, as well as those who would like to improve their knowledge of portfolio construction in addition to their current responsibilities.

This could include investors and investment managers keen to learn more about portfolio construction from the investor’s perspective or those who work in other areas of fund management who want a wider perspective on how investors build portfolios prior to the investing and operational stages.

This course is open to members and non-members and counts towards the INREV/Henley Certificate for Non-listed Real Estate Investments. It is a mandatory course for the Portfolio Management stream and an elective course for the Corporate Finance stream.
