Ilkka Tomperi has seen the industry from all sides. He’s worked as an investor, a funds of fund manager and fund manager, and it is these different perspectives which have made him an invaluable contributor to INREV’s work. As Investment Director, Real Estate for the Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company, he is back in the investor chair and continues to support the Association across a number of initiatives. “It is the investor agenda that drives INREV’s work so, as an investor, I think it is important to participate and always be part of the dialogue,” he said.
Tomperi has been integral in the development of INREV’s training and education programme. This is first as course leader for the Due Diligence course, where his expertise was important in the design of the course while his practical knowledge has ensured that it remains relevant and up-to-date.
He has also been a presenter at the Portfolio Construction course for the last three years, using his due diligence knowledge to present on fund selection as well as working on a case study on portfolio opimisation. “I enjoy bringing together the viewpoints of the different parts of the industry in which I’ve worked. That allows me to foster a good exchange of views between participants in the room.”
Tomperi is now also moving out of the training room and onto the stage for INREV events. He has just participated on a panel on asset liability management at the CFO/COO Conference in Munich last month and will also moderate an investor panel at the INREV Annual Conference in Berlin in April 2014. His support and involvement also continues through his active role in the Performance & Benchmarking Committee.
