Pension funds dominate Dutch institutional investment landscape

The newest edition of the Investor Universe Study focuses on investors domiciled in the Netherlands. The study looks at real estate’s role in the Netherlands institutional investment market, describing the overall investment landscape as well as investigating investors’ motivations for holding real estate, and the ways these are being implemented.

Key highlights of the Dutch study include:

  • Pension funds dominate the Dutch institutional investment landscape and investors expect to increase their allocation to real estate
  • Diversification in the multi-asset portfolio is the primary reason to invest in real estate
  • Non-listed vehicles increasingly dominate real estate allocations, at the expense of listed and direct
  • Dutch investors are increasingly focusing on ESG issues in their strategies and allocations

This study forms part of a series of 8 country specific studies which explore the institutional investor landscape and the size of the institutional universe.

The Finnish, Swedish, German, and UK editions are published, and the Italian version will follow next week.
