All the major policy making institutions in Brussels have been inwardly focused in the months since the late May Parliament elections, with little or no attention being given to issues relevant to the financial industry. While geo-political issues have grabbed the headlines and global tensions have increased in the wake of the crisis in the Ukraine, the European Parliament and Commission have been negotiating committee assignments, leadership positions and legislative priorities.
