Welcome - May 2021

In this edition of the IQ we look closer at many of the topics which were highlighted in the programme at the flagship INREV Annual Conference last month.

Over a year ago, we learned of a global pandemic which has hit the industry hard and while we have overcome the initial shocks, we now look to what the longer-term implications are for our industry. In this edition, we shine a light on the various sectors and look at which trends are emerging and changing the way we operate – one strong flavour is the term ‘hotelisation’. We also further explore the urbanisation trend and how this is affecting housing during a pandemic.

ESG, while not a new topic, has actually risen higher on the agenda in light of COVID-19 with key players large and small realising the critical importance to directing capital toward these more sustainable and socially just areas. We share some highlights of Guy Grainger’s presentation on how to place ESG at the heart of your business, and again int he article about how to balance the investor and performance objectives.

Non-listed real estate has come a long way, and to really look at the journey so far, we invited a panel of c-suite industry experts to the Annual Conference to give an ‘outsider’ view on how non-listed lends itself to a well- balanced portfolio. In this edition, we reflect on some of these characteristics in this edition's member profile with Timo Löyttyniemi, CEO, The State Pension Fund of Finland, as well as the article where we introduce the just-launched INREV paper on ‘Characteristics of non-listed real estate investments’.

I invite you to read this IQ to hear more of these topics to get a flavour of what we covered during the Annual Conference if you missed it, and much more. And, don’t forget you can play back the recordings of each presentation – just head over to the INREV on-demand library

It should not be long now until we can gradually start to meet and network at one of our many events and trainings courses, so I do hope to see all of you soon.
