EU Benchmark Regulation

INREV reviews implications of new regulation

The EU Benchmark Regulation (EU 2016 /1011) imposes new requirements on firms that provide, contribute to or use a wide range of interest rate, currency, securities and other indices, including real estate indices.

The objective is to avoid a repetition of the LIBOR scandal, in which financial institutions were accused of fixing the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR). The Regulation builds on, but goes beyond the 2013 IOSCO Principles.
