Richard Buytendijk

Senior Research and Analytics Manager

IQ magazine spoke recently with the newest addition to the INREV Research Team, Richard Buytendijk, who joined the team in November as Senior Research and Analytics Manager.

Richard joins the team at an exciting time after a busy 2019, having launched a series of investor universe studies and more recently, the paper, Coming of age: The rebirth and renewal of the non-listed real estate industry. The paper which was launched at the INREV Autumn Conference in November 2019 highlights the positive growth of the industry since the GFC.

Richard joins INREV after ten years at INREV member companies Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance and a.s.r. REIM as a Research Analyst, where he covered topics such as investment analysis, market analysis and performance measurement. Richard brings along a complementary knowledge and skill set related to the analysis of real estate data, the characteristics of (non-listed) real estate as an asset class, and it’s role in a multi-asset portfolio, real estate portfolio strategies and vehicles, and various regional real estate markets and sectors.

‘In 2020, I’ll be working on two new exciting studies; one dedicated to the case for non-listed investment versus other routes to investment, and another study looking into the characteristics of operational real estate’ tells Richard. ‘You can catch me in Helsinki presenting the Nordic focused investment intentions survey, and throughout the rest of the year we’ll be working hard to build on the existing global surveys in expanding coverage, applicability and usage to meet the needs and reflect the ever more global industry. We’ll also be continuing the recent developments in improving the online tools to allow deeper analysis of historical INREV survey and index data which is an integrated part of the overall IT roadmap.’

‘I am really positive about my new role at INREV given it is the organisation at the center of the European non-listed industry, setting the bar in research on the latest topics and trends which are of course destined to impact the landscape of tomorrow. And it's really exciting to be a part of the research team as the go-to platform for global insights and to continue to improve the understanding and relevance of European non-listed real estate on the global field.
