How do investors select managers and make investment decisions, and how can managers successfully navigate that process? Due diligence sits at the heart of responsible investment decision-making. Selecting the right manager, committing capital, and building long-term partnerships all require a structured and informed approach. This INREV Effective Due Diligence course provides a practical overview of the due diligence process for both investors and investment managers in the non-listed real estate industry. The course begins with a networking dinner on the evening of 9 September, followed by a full day of interactive learning and discussion.

Learning goals

Led by experienced industry leaders, the course explores how investors assess opportunities, evaluate managers, and identify the factors that drive investment decisions, while also examining how managers can prepare for and manage an effective due diligence process.

Participants will gain insight into investor selection criteria, alignment of interests, track record analysis, and the evolving expectations placed on managers in today's market. The programme also examines key areas of due diligence, including risk management, operational and legal due diligence, sustainability considerations, and the growing complexity of the investment landscape. The course ends with a hands-on case study that mirrors a real-life due diligence process. Participants will also explore emerging trends and best practices shaping the future of due diligence.

  • Managing business, operational and legal due diligence

Target Audience

This course is designed for young professionals involved in, or seeking a deeper understanding of, the due diligence process for non-listed real estate investments. It is particularly relevant for institutional investors, investment managers, and advisors who want to strengthen their understanding of current market practices, investor expectations, and effective due diligence processes.

To ensure that all attendees begin at the same level, participants are required to complete the INREV Introduction to Effective Due Diligence eLearning module prior to joining this course.

For this due diligence course, INREV has introduced a 60-minute eLearning module as a prerequisite for participation in the online course. This additional module will ensure everyone is at the same level before they undertake the more advanced course. The eLearning module Introduction to Effective Due Diligence will be made available for course participants via a link in the confirmation e-mail. 

This course is open to INREV members and non-members and counts towards the INREV Academy Certificate for Non-listed Real Estate Investments
