Highlights from Fund Structuring: Tax and Advanced NAV courses

The INREV Academy recently completed two practical courses offering participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of INREV NAV and tax considerations for fund structuring. Both programmes included a combination of expert-led presentations, Q&A, group discussions and real-life case studies to translate theory into practice.

The Fund Structuring in Practice: Tax Considerations course was held in London on 29 October. Led by Richard van der Linden (PwC), this one-day course explored the fundamentals and tax implications of fund structuring, providing a clear understanding of recent changes and trends, including the impact of AI.

Antoine Dupuis (Atoz) delved into technical tax considerations, while Friederike Werner (DWS) explained the key principles and implications of the hybrid mismatch rules on fund and investment structuring. In a new session by Richard van der Linden (PwC), participants also explored how AI tools can enhance their productivity and support the tax structuring process.

The afternoon focused on a group discussion of practical examples and a case study, providing attendees with hands-on experience in addressing common challenges.

In Amsterdam, we conducted a two-day Advanced NAV course on 4–5 November, bringing together finance and reporting professionals to deepen their understanding of the INREV NAV methodology and its practical application. The course was led by John Ravoisin (PwC Luxembourg), Jef Holland (Deloitte) and Constantin Sorlescu (INREV), who guided participants through calculation techniques, advanced adjustments, and disclosure requirements.

The sessions combined technical presentations with interactive group exercises and case studies (including a lively Kahoot quiz), allowing participants to practice the calculations and discuss results in small teams. A dedicated segment on the INREV Reporting Framework provided insights into disclosure templates and alignment with best practice standards. There was also a networking dinner at the end of the first night for all attendees to mingle in an informal setting.

The course concluded with a deep dive into NAV from an investor’s perspective, presented by Devon Hollander and Dion Hennen (APG Asset Management), highlighting how transparency and consistency in reporting strengthen trust and comparability across the non-listed real estate industry.

Both courses demonstrated the value of INREV Academy’s hands-on learning approach. Delivered by members, for members, these sessions offered practical insights from a diverse range of industry leaders so participants can stay competitive, exchange ideas, and expand their network.
