Catella acquires Düsseldorf Grand Central to develop Central Living Düsseldorf

On the long-unused site at Düsseldorf Central Station – formerly known under the project name "Grand Central" – a new chapter in district development is being opened with the Central Living Düsseldorf project. Catella has received the exclusive right to acquire and, as a locally proven investor, is taking over the development of the overall project, which will comprise a total of approx. 1,400 apartments.

Catella Project Management can draw on many years of experience and extensive prior knowledge of the area: Catella had already acquired the land in 2015, carried out the demolition, created the excavation pit and received building permits. In 2018, the development plan came into force on the part of the state capital Düsseldorf. In 2019, the construction was to take place with the CG Group, for which corresponding contracts were concluded. Instead of the start of construction, however, the CG Group was sold to Consus and Consus was sold to Adler Real Estate, which also gained access to this area in this way. Adler has now ruled out its own developments, wants to part with the plots and has already concluded an exclusive agreement with Catella to sell it in July 2025.

At the time, Catella had retained access to a partial plot of land on which 147 price-controlled apartments have been built in the meantime and have been inhabited since 2023. There are various neighbourhood links between these existing buildings and the development area.  Catella is now creating the prerequisites for a holistic development of the area.
