On 13 March 2024, the INREV Cannes Seminar returned to the Hotel Carlton, and was once again MIPIM’s premier industry event with an excellent turnout and extensive networking among INREV members. The mood at the event was much more positive than last year, as leading experts from the real estate investment industry met under beautiful Mediterranean blue skies.
The seminar began with a welcoming coffee reception to boost spirits for the day, followed by an introduction with our CEOLonneke Löwik.
Kicking off the seminar, Vera Fehling, CIO Western Europe at DWS Group, delivered a clear and compelling presentation on the role of real estate in a multi-asset portfolio and its continuing contribution to investment returns in current market conditions.
Her presentation set the stage for a lively panel of experts, featuring Anne Gales, Co-founder of Threadmark, Paul Kennedy, MD, Head of Strategy and Portfolio Manager of European Real Estate, at J.P. Morgan Asset Management, and Mahdi Mokrane, Head of Investment Strategy and Research at PATRIZIA.
The panel discussed the INREV Consensus Indicator, released the same morning, which provided encouraging evidentiary support for the positive mood as it showed the first expansion in real estate investment sentiment after three quarters of contraction.
Last year’s market sentiment sound bite ‘survive till ’25’ has been replaced by ‘don’t ignore ‘24’ as current market opportunities have quickly emerged. Confidence has seemed to return to the real estate investment world.
