INREV has responded to the European Commission's call for evidence on housing supply and affordability, supporting measures to help increase the supply of affordable housing across the EU, while preserving social, environmental, and public-interest objectives that underpin European housing policies. The key test for the Housing Simplification Package is whether the combined EU framework lets long-term institutional capital reach viable affordable-housing projects efficiently, at scale, and on terms compatible with durable affordability, sustainability and tenant protection.
The INREV response, which is aligned with other industry associations, argues the need for a more coherent and proportionate regulatory framework that enables long-term institutional capital to be invested in affordable housing efficiently and at scale. The response stresses that while housing needs are local, the capital required is often European and global, and that simplification should improve investment conditions without compromising social protections, sustainability objectives, financial stability safeguards or tenant rights.
