Nature in focus: from insights to practical application

The real estate sector has a significant relationship with nature: as a major contributor to biodiversity loss, but also as a sector increasingly exposed to the risks that follow from ecosystem degradation. INREV has a range of resources to help the industry better understand and respond to these challenges, from research and case studies to expert discussions.

  • The impact of real estate on nature – This paper examines how real estate activities affect ecosystems across the full building lifecycle, from planning and construction through to end-of-life. It explores the regulatory and voluntary frameworks shaping the agenda, including TNFD and Biodiversity Net Gain, and highlights how nature-based solutions can support both climate adaptation and biodiversity outcomes at portfolio and asset level.
  • Nature briefing – In this briefing, industry experts discussed the paper’s findings and shared perspectives on implementation challenges, data gaps and evolving expectations. The session reinforced the need for clearer frameworks, better data and increased collaboration across stakeholders.
  • Nature case studies – These showcase how INREV member organisations are already addressing biodiversity in practice. The examples illustrate a range of approaches, from asset-level interventions to portfolio-wide strategies, helping to translate theory into actionable insights.

All these resources offer a practical starting point for organisations looking to strengthen their approach to nature. They underline a broader shift in the market: from understanding impact to embedding nature into decision making.
