The Q4 performance of the German Vehicles Index falls back as capital values drift down

The Q4 2022 INREV German Vehicles Quarterly Index’s total return decreased to 0.36% from 1.14% in Q3. The full impact of a 137 bps fall in capital values to -0.60% was limited by a 60 bps uplift to distributed income to 0.97%.

This release includes 165 funds with a combined GAV of €161.6 billion as at the end of Q4 2022.

Key highlights:

  • The spread in performance between the German Vehicles Index and the INREV Fund Index widened to 6.5 percentage points in Q4 from 2.4 percentage points in Q3.
  • Spezialfonds once again outperformed Publikumsfonds in Q4. In the calendar year Spezialfonds have produced total returns of 6.32% while Publikumsfonds have generated just 1.84%.
  • The capital values of Industrial / Logistics specialist funds fell -3.14% but the overall impact was limited by a distributed income return of 1.96% and the sector’s low weighting within the whole index.
