Total returns of real estate assets across Europe hit negative territory in Q2 2020

The INREV pan-European quarterly Asset Level Index recorded a total return of -0.33% in Q2 2020, down from 0.50% posted over the previous quarter.

Key highlights of the Q2 2020 Asset Level Index:

  • Income return has remained stable at 0.89%, while capital growth deteriorated further to -1.21%, down from -0.45% posted over Q1 2020.
  • The Netherlands saw total returns drop to 0.33% over the quarter, down from 2.04% over the previous quarter, meanwhile the UK market continued to underperform with a total return of as low as -1.92%.
  • Residential sector remained on top, regardless of a drop in total return to 1.00%, down from 2.09% recorded over the previous quarter.
