The Advanced ESG course returned on 13 and 14 May with over 30 seasoned professionals gathering at the PATRIZIA office in Covent Garden, London for an in-depth, practical look at ESG strategies and implementation in non-listed real estate.
Led by Abigail Dean, Global Head of Strategic Insights at Nuveen Real Estate, the 1.5-day course combined expert presentations, case studies, and peer discussions to address the evolving ESG landscape. Key themes included climate risk management, achieving net zero, biodiversity, the impact of ESG on valuations, regulations, and impact investing. The course also featured a lively vegetarian networking dinner, offering a chance to connect and exchange insights.
A standout moment was the site visit to 40 Holborn Viaduct, a landmark Nuveen property undergoing a sustainability-focused refurbishment. Participants saw firsthand how ESG principles are being applied to a live asset.
Another highlight was the interactive case study, where attendees took on the roles of tenants and fund managers negotiating upgrades to enhance ESG performance in a multi-let building. This course underscored the value of moving beyond theory to explore how ESG can be embedded into real-world investment and asset management decisions.
Participants shared how they found the course fun and interactive, well-organised and insightful, with a great case study session. They also felt very motivated to continue the important work that’s being done on ESG.
