The real estate investment industry will inevitably be impacted by the effects of COVID-19 but some sectors will be hit harder than others. Retail and hotel have been among the first victims of this crisis, with declining rents and lower occupancy rates. The office sector has been relatively unscathed compared to others but what’s going to happen in the long term? Last but not least logistics, online demand is fuelling the growth of e-commerce and logistics, which opportunities will this sector bring to real estate investors?

Which sectors will survive or reinvent themselves and which ones require structural changes in the new world we find ourselves in? Or, is COVID-19 simply a catalyst, accelerating the sector trends that we were already there or expected to be there soon.

On Thursday 2 July at 11:00 CET, we were joined in the INREV Live Online studio by four sector experts who gave their views on the European real estate outlook and sectors.

Henri Vuong, INREV presents the impacts on fund performance from the start of the pandemic using the INREV indices. Andreas Wuermeling, Deutsche Pfandbriefbank, joined us online in the studio to present the possibilities in loan restructuring during these uncertain times, and Simon Mallinson, Real Capital Analytics presents today’s investment deals landscape in light of COVID-19. The panel of speakers come together at the end to collectively discuss the overall market impact.

During the seminar, we are casting an eye over the latest global outlook and present the macro economic update as well as looking at the overall impact of the crisis upon our industry. We are delighted to welcome Global Head of Strategy and Research and Global Chief Economist, Sabina Kalyan, CBRE Global Investors, Jose Pellicer, Head of Investment Strategy and Research, M&G Real Estate and Richard van der Linden, PwC to the online seminar.

Also read a short paper filled with reporting considerations related to COVID-19 and which are based on the INREV Guidelines.

Oscar Fusco, Research and Analytics Analyst at INREV joined by Kim Politzer, Director of Research, European Real Estate at Fidelity International, and Robert Wagenaar, Manager International Finance at Bouwinvest, discuss the recent performance and trends of the INREV Fund index, INREV ODCE Index and INREV Asset Level Index.
