Investing in RE Emerging Sectors: The Rise of Residential

, Amsterdam

There is a secular shift occurring in the broader commercial real estate sector with property types that were once viewed as “alternative” now moving into the mainstream as accepted institutional-calibre assets.

Institutional investors have started to step outside their comfort zone of office, industrial and retail to consider a growing menu of alternative real estate options. In particular, this has led to increased interest in a range of Residential real estate options, including private rented residential sector (PRS), student accommodation and senior housing.

This brand-new course will look at the broad rationale for investing in non-traditional real estate, with a deeper focus on Residential.

It will examine the drivers that are prompting investors to change their investment strategies, the role of Residential in the portfolio and identify and address current barriers to investing in these specific sectors.

The course will enable participants to understand the management operation and how to assess operational business risks. It will also examine the specific set of skills required to manage these more intensive operational businesses.

The course will cover:

  • Fundamentals for investing in private rented residential sector (PRS), student accommodation and senior housing.
  • Investment trends
  • Key investment drivers from an investor’s perspective
  • Investment structures
  • Operational risks
  • Opportunities and challenges

The course is aimed at experienced professionals with several years of practice within the non-listed real estate investment industry. Course participants might include institutional investors and fund managers who are currently considering adding Residential to their portfolio or who are already involved in managing such products and wish to improve their knowledge of various related aspects.

This course is open to members and non-members and it counts towards the INREV/ Henley Certificate for non-listed real estate investments.
